A few days before the start of the European Under-21 Men’s and Women’s Hockey Championship, which will be played at the Atlètic Terrassa facilities, the number of 100 volunteers participating has been surpassed in order to make the tournament possible and put the city of Terrassa back at the epicenter of European hockey.
From 14 July to 21 July, the U21 Eurohockey tournament will be played in Can Salas, a top-level sporting tournament that requires a high level of organization to coordinate seven national teams with more than 350 players and staff, as well as all the operational and social aspects of the tournament.
The aim of the Eurohockey Organizing Committee was to get as many clubs as possible to participate across the board. The result is 128 volunteers, from 10 different clubs and with an age range from 9 to 70 years old. The clubs represented, apart from Atlètic Terrassa, are Club Egara, CD Terrassa, Junior FC, Línia 22, Matadepera 88, FC Barcelona, Sitges HC, Catalonia HC and Giner de los Ríos (Valencia). There is also the collaboration of the ‘Hi Som’ Association, which focuses on the accompaniment of unaccompanied migrant minors.
Of these one hundred, about fifty are pilots or ball patrols. Most of them are players and players from Catalan clubs, who will have the opportunity to see first-hand the idols of their clubs.
In the words of Carles Pons, president of the Committee together with Miquel Cunill, “We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has signed up and has wanted to help make this tournament an organizational success. Atlètic and the world of hockey in general has always had a very active volunteerism and on this occasion, has once again been present at the event”.
The U21 European Championship brings together the U21 teams of Germany, England, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Ireland and the Netherlands in the women’s category, and Germany, England, Belgium, Spain, France, Ireland, the Netherlands and Turkey in the men’s category. The competition starts on Sunday and the local teams will make their debut the same day in the afternoon; the girls at 18:00 against Holland and the boys at 20:15 against Ireland. The competition will last until Saturday 20th, when the new champions will be decided. All the games are open to the public.
